Welcome To My Funeral!

Dear Friends,
You are cordially invited to my funeral. Thank you for your support over the years and see you on the other side!

Welcome to the funeral of Crazy Girl. A girl who for 10 years ran rough shod over the London club scene, sticking 2 fingers up to authority and trampling all in her path. She lived fast and died young like so many greats before her. So, rest easy Crazy Girl and thank you for the memories. Crazy Girl 2000 – 2011 R.I.P.
Taking over the reigns from Crazy Girl, is Grande Dame, she’s a lady, she’s refined. Her sound is big, her style is large she is Grande Dame.

It’s tradition of the New Orleans Jazz Funeral to play a slow somber dirge on the way to the cemetery and once the body is buried, change the tempo to an upbeat celebratory number, with the congregation marching in a second line behind the band.

So to send off Crazy Girl, and introduce Grande Dame to the world, enjoy this animated short – Grande Dame – The Funeral.

Video Killed The Video Star

Apologies for not posting too much, but I’m back in video mode… This one is a killer too! I’ve been working from 6 am to 10 to 11 pm 3 days this week and much of last week… It will be the death of me, but it will be worth it! It’s hard cos I’m trying to do the work of 20 people. I can’t do anything else. Clean, bathe, taxes. I’m taking a few days breather just to organize my life, as I’ve neglected my husband & dog, plus other life responsibilities. And I really need to clean the layer of filth off my house and body… Ugh… Luckily my friend ladypat has helped me a bit. But he’s away in India, so Im on my own for the next 2 weeks… In the meantime enjoy this oldie but goodie collab from way back when…

more soon!

My Scottish Ancestor – The Black Fairy (hatched from the egg of the Devil)

Soz for the delay… I went to Oxford last week to visit my mom who has been living there since January. Went to every charity shop there twice! Bit of a disappointment, but arent they all these days? But that’s another post.

My mom’s main “thing” is genealogy. She says it happened back in the 70′s when she watched Alex Haley’s “Roots”. Since then she was bit by the bug so speak, being a University librarian, was pretty useful, with all the research involved. I remember as a child being dragged around from city to city on holidays, while she would visit archives and look at microfilm searching for names and dates… Or we would pass through country graveyards and stop and have picnics on the graves of some old dead relative. She would tell me all about this person or that person. I always thought “whatever mom!  BOR-ING!”

But then one time, she returned from a trip to Scotland where she met with some distant relatives on the Isle of Jura, where our Scots people hail from. She brought this little book about the Shaw Family History, that’s our kin ya see. Our first known ancestor was named Dubsith Shaw and he came to America from the Isle of Jura in like 1730 or summat, Im sure my mother will leave a comment with exact dates, cos that’s how she be. Anyhoo, he was from the Isle of Jura ( a tiny island off the southern Hebrides). Well this little book tells the story of his Great Grandfather of the same name, who was a dwarf involved in a famous highland battle – The Battle of Traighgruenhart 1598. And who’s name translated in Gaelic meant – Black Fairy hatched from the egg of the Devil!! Finally, all those boring days looking for names in records, seemed worth it, and my interest was sparked. It stayed in my mind for 2 decades and was one of my party stories I recited “I’m descended from a Black Fairy Dwarf! Ha Ha Ha Ha!”

After I got the hang of animation, I decided to get it out of my mind and make a lil film bout it. It’s a fascinating story really, about Scotland V/s England and who controls the isles. My ancestor really saved the day too!

Anyhoo, that’s all for now.. Back to work!

Penthouse Nov 1976 – The issue that shaped my vision…

Penthouse Nov 1976, a set on Flickr.

When I was little there was a wardrobe in the corner of my parents bedroom where my dad kept his stuff. The top left corner was of particular interest to me. It was where he kept his playboys, rare coins, gun, pot and this one Penthouse Magazine. A veritable pandoras box if you will, and when no one was home, I would raid it regularly.

This issue in particular sparked my curiosity and mainly because of these feathered voodoo ladies licking a snake… “What on earth are they doing?” I thought to myself… I had no idea what it was, but I was hooked. These snake lady images shaped my young mind and influenced my taste. I’ve recreated this feather look for live shows and photos more than once. There was also a Playboy, March 77 that  had naked ladies painted red with horns cavorting with Devils, which I found fascinating as well… I even remember in my first confession telling Father Schnnick i had looked at my dads mags. I didnt tell him there were serpents or demons involved. It was one of those things tho, I had to look at them, I knew it must be wrong, and surely I would be going to hell, but I couldn’t help myself! Ha Ha!

When my father passed away in 97, my brothers and I were clearing out his house. I started panicking cos I couldn’t find his mag stash… I cornered my brothers and told them I was getting that. They looked at me like I was mad, they had no interest… Finally after turning his house upside down, I found the gold-mine in a trunk in the basement. And since it has come into my possession, it travels with me where ever I go. Well when I move, I don’t pack it away for trips or anything!! It’s just something I refer to from time to time for inspiration.

The advertising was so amazing!! The Hi Fi Ads!! Come on, The 1970′s photo ad styling totally sexualized stereos! The clothing ads! I would love a Schlitz Malt Liquor Sweater!! Where can I get one?? What is an Erotic Frog?? A tit pillow? And don’t get me started on The Fredricks of Hollywood Lingerie Ads!! Total Class! God I wanted to look like that!! Still do!

At the back of the mag they had these bondage cartoons. Women were these super villians with amazing figures who would chain & gag people. They were portrayed as these hyper sexual alpha females. And these cartoons definitely stayed with me, my next video was influenced by images of this ilk and old bondage art. I think these drawings are way more erotic than photos. Does that make me a perv?? Probably, ha ha!

I always wondered why my dad had 20 playboys and this one penthouse?? Was it because the articles were really interesting? Or did he really like the voodoo ladies like me?? Recently, while looking for some inspiration, I discovered why…It was because my cousin Sean had two illustrations inside. Jimmy Carter & Richard Nixon, and his take on the classic American Gothic pic… He was a genius with such a keen eye and sly wit. He illustrated for many big publications of that time – National Lampoon, Rolling Stone, Playboy and more… I am so glad I still have this, it has shaped my vision as an artist and it will be with me forever.

Click on the pics and immerse yourself in this golden age of soft core porn!

And if anyone finds a Schlitz Malt Liquor Sweater, I am a medium!

Ciao for now!

Rock & Roll Space Monkey & that time I pissed off Disney…

I have been told by my business partner to stop parading my new project around. It’s so difficult when you work so hard!! I want everyone to see and get feedback, but in order to make an impact, no more Grande Dame posts for a bit… But that’s ok, cos I have LOADS of Crazy Girl stuff!!

A few years back I was working for this site addicting games dot com. My first job was just to draw images for a game called Mileys Naughty Pictures… Miley Cirus had just done that Annie Lebowitz shoot with her dad and the pics were all slimey and pervy, so the site had the idea to capitalize on that, hence the game… I was just the illustrator, and didnt really think much of it… But when it went live it exploded and got like 2 million hits in a few days!! I was mortified because my art looked awful because of the way the game was programmed (bitmap vs vector), and I was a bit devastated that millions of people (mainly kids) were seeing my work in that shoddy state…

Funnily enough it got right up Disneys nose and they threatened the site which is owned by Nickelodeon/ MTV/ Viacom. Disney said, if the site didnt take the game down that they would remove all their ads from every Viacom channel and website costing millions of dollars!! If they did take it down, then they would continue to advertise!! Can you believe that?? That little cheesy game caused that much of an uproar! Ha Ha! So they removed it. It’s only now that I’m talking about it, cos I was mortified that I would get any sort of recognition off the back of some Disney tween star, it’s totally against my ethics, so I just never mentioned it to anyone…

My pride and joy while working for the site was making my own games. Personally I think my best achievement to date is my game – Rock & Roll Space Monkey. The story is –  ”you are Rock and Roll Space Monkey, the baddest guitar player in all the universe, your mission is to travel 5 different galaxies and battle evil aliens that wanna bring rock down!! your weapon – your guitar!!”

How cool is that?? I thought if Miley’s Pics was huge, then Rock and Roll Space Monkey will take over the world!! Ha Ha! I was wrong… People are more interested in sensationalist/ tabloid fodder than real creativity… Esp snot nosed kids! Disney has them hooked on their little prostitutes, it’s scary…Who knows tho, maybe one day some production company will come knocking on my door wanting to develop my idea… I doubt it will be Disney tho!

Anyhoo, have a go – move with your arrows, shoot with  a & s, always tune your radio and dont forget to eat your bananas!! there are 5 levels, watch out for the clowns on level 4!! they are dangerous!!

Click the pic & Enjoy!

I thought I finished this video a few months back, but what always happens when I make a video is every time I watch it back I say to myself “I should have done this…”
So I was playing around this weekend and decided to make the video for my track Black Leather more psychedelic, I can’t help it, I need things to be trippy & colorful at all times.

I have a real thing for color. I think color has an effect on your state of mind. The brighter the better I say. It’s funny cos, I am blind in my right eye. Well actually, I have sight, but my optic nerve isn’t connected to my brain, so it doesn’t get used. I had to get glasses recently and the eye doctor was floored by my high score on the color chart, said it was the highest he’s seen. Maybe my good eye over compensates for color? Who knows…

Ill probably tweak this some more before it’s released, but so far I’m over the moon! I wish I could play it now, but I have a whole promotional campaign for the single and I have to be patient, which is not something Im known for…

You could always play the song in the back ground while flipping thru…
