Happy Birthday Carson McCullers!

Dear Friends! I had planned on waiting until after my presentation at The Carson McCullers Centre to share the video, but as today is her birthday (and as a protest to Presidents Day and the Patriarchy in general!), I decided to go ahead and release it to the world! Plus I needed a lift, as everything with this project but the video has gone sideways! I want to first thank Carson for creating her wonderful wordsmith tapestries that captured my young mind, and to Dr Virginia Carr for her fabulous biography which gave me a lifeline to persevere in the Deep South! Also Dr Carlos Dews for lighting the spark! To Pete Zivkovic and Ade Meehan for co-writing the music with me. Dominic Glover for the brilliant trumpet, Peter J Bowling for the fab mix, Audio Masters for the mastering, Rowan Bailey for the additional animation help; and lastly to Mamma for all your support! If you aren’t familiar with Carson’s incredible work – watch the vid, then go to your local library and check out a book and immerse yourself in her incredible worlds! Thank you for watching! Maybe see some local Columbusites at her childhood home later! Please share far and wide! I’ve only been working on it all year! Ha! Enjoy! More soon! oxo GD

Grande Dame Short Debut at Carson McCullers House!

Friends & Comrades! This past year I created a short on the life and works of Carson McCullers.  You may recall I presented it last summer in Rome at an academic conference at John Cabot University and it was very well received! It’s been a 5 month endeavor – 6 months once I am completely finished! Ha! Well I am happy to finally announce that it will be available to the viewing public from Feb 19th! That is Carson’s birthday. She would have been 101 years old! So to honour her life, there will be a celebration at her childhood home in Columbus, Georgia on the day. My animated short – A Star Named Carson – will be playing on loop. I will have copies of the graphic novel I have made of the same name; as well as selected giclee prints on display and both avail for purchase. In addition Sue Brannan Walker will be reading from her upcoming book about Carson. So if you happen to be in my hometown of Columbus, Georgia – stop on by and say hey! Don’t fret, even if you are not able to attend the fete, the short will be online everywhere! Click the pic or here for info! More soon oxo

Toodles 2017!

Thought I would do a little year end round up on here, since I barely post anymore. I think I have mentioned this before, but the more technology moves in an intrusive manner – tracking us, recording our convos and spamming us with ads etc… – the less I want to share my life online. Hence – sporadic posting. That being said – what a horrid fucking year it’s been! I do believe Elon Musk is right and we are in a simulated matrix! It’s the only thing that makes sense! Everyone’s mind is poisoned with – I cant even say his fucking name! – twitler. It is a disease. The GOP are as Noam Chomsky says “the most dangerous organization/ terrorist groups on the planet!” I can never forgive my old friends and family that voted for this garbage. Praying for a flip in 18. Political rants aside – it was an amazing year for me personally!
The Apple thing was mental. Did not see it coming, and BOOM my animations were all over the world constantly for months in every country on the PLANET! Made a few coins too, so that was cool – app is still avail ere for iphone users! GET IT!
Then Facebook came calling at the exact same time! It was crazy! All of the sudden I was in demand to the biggest most powerful companies on Planet Earth! WTF? Literally fell into that whole sticker thing by accident, but what a good accident to fall into! I even got sticker fans from it – yes it’s true – I have sticker fans! There is such a thing – it is real!

My gifs became world famous – I’ve now passed 72 million views – and growing! More people than all of the UK have seen my GIFS!! That is INCREDIBLE! If there is one area I have achieved world domination, it’s me gifs!

I got to meet George Clinton & we swapped Cazals! The KING OF FUNK! WOWWWWWW! I’m not worthy Garth! Was like meeting God.
My Carson McCullers short I presented at the acedemic conference at John Cabot University in Rome was a HUGE HIT! And I have more exciting news about this project coming soon – yippie!
And travelling around Rome & Barcelona with Mamma was the best trip of my life! We had so much fun!
But my highlight of the year most definitely has been my show at The St Leonard Pub. When the idea came about, I thought “it’s just a local pub show, no big deal, I’m not going to put a whole lot into it, as no one will buy anything.” My goddess – how wrong was I! To be fair, I did make a bunch of new work right before the opening. So I did put alot into it. Funny, when I first hung it up in the day time, I thought “ugh, I hate it! Looks just like I moved my flat in here.” But when I came back at night, it was a totally different place! The work really popped! And wow! Did I do sales! I’m pretty much out of everything but giclees at the mo! In fact it’s still up – comes down Jan 10th. Nearly a 5 month run! Incredible!

And the pub have made my video installation and a lightbox permanent!!! And have invited me back again for next year! But more than the sales, which really have been off the charts, getting to know the owners Phil and Chris, and all the regulars and locals who come in, and who bought my work – that has been brilliant! Sometimes it can be hard when you are on your own, walking into a full pub where you don’t know anyone – it can be quite intimidating. There were a few times before were I walked in and walked out, just cos I was by myself and felt awkward and alone. But now – I know everyone! I’m even on a pub quiz team! Ha! So it’s really been life changing. This has made me really feel part of the community. And as I said at the beginning – with technology destroying us, invading us, and tearing us apart – now is the time to go into our communities and really connect, because the social network experiment is a disaster!

So all in all I was sittin pretty in 2017, a much needed improvement from the previous year!!! But I had to work my ass off and fight to get many of my rewards, nothing was handed to me & I’m still fighting. And, if I can be honest, it was hard to enjoy my small success’ when I have seen so much suffering, and I know so many people are suffering at the hands of the worlds political powers. All I can do is continue to work hard, bring as much colour and joy to people, and hopefully make a living in the process. Maybe one day I can do something to help those who so desperately need it. So, that is my yearly rant! If you reached this point – much appreciated. Now get off the computer and go hug a person or animal now! Lots of Love & all the best in 2018! oxo GD

THE BEST PARTY EVER THIS NEW YEARS!

Some people go off to University and get their degrees in History, Literature, Science etc… I majored in partying. I have always been keen on that particular subject. I had a fake ID that said I was 27 when I was 17 and would go to Weekends & Club Rio in Atlanta, I was part of the San Francisco Rave Scene, A New York drag performer and London Club Kid (technically I was an adult tho – ha!); so I am pretty experienced in that arena. But in all my years of clubbing, I have to say hands down Outrageous Decadence do the BEST NEW YEARS PARTY EVER!

I’m kinda superstitious about going out on New Years. Crowds can be off putting, and it always seems to attract the same ilk of amateurs akin to St Paddys day celebrations – fights, puking etc… Plus you have expectations to have fun, which is not always guaranteed. Also someone said to me years ago “make sure if you do celebrate New Years, to be with good people as it can be an omen to the year to come.” Well I dj’d at their NYE Party last year and it was honestly the best party I had ever been too. And this has been a great year for me so I shall continue the tradition.

I can attest that the people that do the night are truly amazing and go all out with their theme. This year is Grimms Fairy Tales – It’s Grimm in St Leonards. There will be people dressed in amazing costumes, wacky props, visuals, great music and hilarious performances. You can dress up if you wish, but it’s not required. But either way you will have a blast! Everyone I met that night – the patrons and organizers – were so fun! And it’s in the Masonic Hall which is such a great space! And I will be DJing again this year too! Hopefully early so I can imbibe in the libations…

To top it all off, proceeds from the event go to help a local charity – this year it’s the Dragonflies, which mentors young people who have lost a parent. So not only do you have the time of your life, you’re helping local children! Tickets are £18/ £13 for students. So Click the pic or here for more info and I’ll see you on the Dancefloor! oxo GD
