Is there a more glamourous woman alive right now or ever than Iris Apfel? At 91 years old, this Grande Dame KILLS IT! Always! Iris was born in Queens in 1921. She began a carrer in fashion journalism at WWD in the 1940′s In 1948 she married Carl Apfel and 2 years later they started their textile company – Old World Weavers, which became one of the most successful in history! In 2005 The Metropolitan Museum of Art did an exhibition on her, their first ever of someone still living. It was very successful. At 91 Iris is still designing. She has a jewelry line called Rara Avis (my mom bought me one of her rings! statement piece for sure!), as well as collaborations with MAC & Jimmy Choo. And she doesn’t take herself seriously or get caught up with the fashion world – “Fashion is not my trade and it’s not my life. I don’t live to get dressed. I think getting dressed is wonderful but there’s a whole big world outside of the closet.” She’s what I wanna be when I grow up!! I never buy mags, but I’m def gonna get this issue! oxo gd
