Ike Turner Presents The Family Vibes – Strange Fruit

Sorry for the long delay in posting, I have been recuperating from oral surgery and I have been in a bit of a haze from the pain killers. Hopefully I will be back to normal soon. In the meantime I thought I would post one of my top tunes. Family Vibes was Ike Turner’s band in the early 70’s. It was a period when he obviously started mixing LSD with his speed balls as his signature twangy rockin blues sound went decidedly psychedelic and waaaay trippy man. This album Strange Fruit is one of my all time faves and I always have it in my record bag. I got it when i was 16 at Flipside Records in my hometown of Columbus, Georgia. On top of a echoey laden fuzzed out guitar soundtrack, I was always and still am fascinated with the inside jacket photo. Ike’s acid hadn’t quite kicked in yet, but look at the guy in the middle! he’s havin a great time! Classic 70’s threads! I feel bad for Ike and his legacy. Unlike Chris Brown who is just a douche bag. Ike was one of the best guitarists in history. Listen to The Rooster from his first album – Dance With Ike & Tina Turner’s Kings of Rhythm. That sound is so unique. No one has come close since. It’s quintessentially Ike! I certainly wouldn’t have wanted to be married to the guy, but my god, you can’t deny his talent. Shame he didn’t turn it around before his departure. He was just a tortured genius I suppose. Anyhoo, here is my fave tune from Strange Fruit – Heep-A-Hole-Lot. Crank it up this one is a doozy! Enjoy! oxo gd
